Colombia closes week 51 with a decline in avocado exports
The Colombian export market showed signs of slowing at the close of week 51, with a total of 222 containers shipped abroad. This volume represents a 9% drop compared to the previous week, which marked the peak of the season. The trend points to a gradual decline in the coming weeks, with estimates suggesting that weekly volume will fall below 200 containers, reaching its lowest point around week 12 in April, just before the start of the next season.
During 2024, Europe continued to solidify its position as the main market for Colombian avocados, absorbing 73% of total shipments. In week 51, the European market share reached 19%, highlighting the strategic role of this destination for the Colombian industry. The United States, although in a smaller proportion, accounted for 27% of exports for the year and 6% of those shipped in the most recent week.
The decline in Colombian shipments follows an expected seasonal pattern, with producers adjusting to the end of the annual harvest peak. This trend is consistent with the avocado production cycles in Colombia, where exports gradually decrease until the start of the new season.
