China ends the year with an unexpected surge in avocado imports

The Chinese avocado market surprised everyone this last week of the year with the arrival of 51 shipments from Peru and Chile, a significant 34% increase compared to the previous week. This volume, unusual for this time of year, is divided between 57% from Chile and the remainder from Peru.

The record of 51 shipments not only marks a considerable increase in trade activity, but also stands out as a peak volume not seen since week 27, at the end of the first half of the year. During that period, China was receiving more than 50 shipments weekly, a stark contrast to recent weeks where imports fell to less than 20.

Looking ahead to the start of next year, it will be crucial to see if this upward trend continues, especially considering that the volume of imports at this time has exceeded traditional expectations.
