Chile projects a 33.3% increase in the Hass avocado harvest for the 2024-2025 season
The Chilean Avocado Committee estimates a record production of 200,000 tons for the new season, of which 55% will be destined for local consumption. This growth is driven by improved weather conditions.
The upcoming Hass avocado season in Chile, beginning in September, promises to be one of the most successful in recent years. According to the Chilean Avocado Committee, a harvest of 200,000 tons is expected for the 2024-2025 cycle, representing a 33.3% increase compared to the 150,000 tons harvested the previous year. This increase is attributed to improved fruit set in the orchards, favored by more favorable weather conditions.
Domestic consumption will remain the priority for producers, with 55% of production, equivalent to 110,000 tons, destined for Chilean consumers. "Chile is the second largest consumer of Hass avocados in the world, second only to Mexico. This demonstrates the importance of the domestic market and the long-standing tradition of avocado consumption in the country," stated Carmen Gloria Lüttges, president of the Avocado Committee.
On the other hand, it is projected that 90,000 tons of Hass avocados will be exported, with Europe as the main destination, receiving 74% of shipments. Latin America, Asia, and the United States will also be key markets, with shares of 10.9%, 10.2%, and 5.3%, respectively. "Argentina continues to consolidate its position as a major consumer of this fruit in Latin America, thanks to its nutritional properties and excellent flavor," added Lüttges. The president of the trade association also indicated that the figures will be updated as the season progresses.
