Cabilfrut Colombia and Green SuperFood seal alliance to position Colombian avocados

This agreement aims to create synergies between both companies to develop a more robust work plan for Colombian Hass avocados. Both companies will contribute their expertise in production and marketing to ensure the fruit meets the requirements of target markets. Over the past decade, Colombia has experienced significant and sustained growth in the production of agricultural products such as Hass avocados. Since 2009, demand for this fruit has increased both domestically and internationally, positioning Colombia as the world's fifth-largest avocado exporter. Companies like Cabilfrut SAS and Green Superfood SAS are key players in this market position and actively participate in the production and marketing of Hass avocados.

Juan Pablo Cerda, CEO of Cabilfrut, and Mauricio Yunis, Deputy General Manager of Green SuperFood, have announced that both companies have decided to establish an alliance to develop commercial strategies that will improve returns for their own and external producers. This alliance will involve exchanging knowledge in agricultural production and strengthening all processes related to fruit, from cultivation and industrial processing to marketing at the national and international levels. Cabilfrut, a family-owned company founded in 1989 in Chile, markets citrus fruits and Hass avocados from Chile, Peru, and Colombia, with a strong presence in its home country and internationally in North America, Europe, Oceania, Asia, and Latin America. Since establishing itself in Colombia in 2019, Cabilfrut has been clear that its growth in the country would be based on commercial alliances with local producers.

Green Superfood, for its part, is a company established in Colombia in 2018, starting with its first farm in the municipality of Aguadas (Caldas). They currently own six farms and lease two, distributed across the departments of Quindío, Caldas, Risaralda, and Tolima. They also have a packing facility located in La Tebaida (Quindío), certified to high standards for fruit processing. The company has distinguished itself through its ability to cultivate avocados sustainably, contributing to the development of rural areas and providing stable income and formal employment to local communities—a model that has been successfully replicated in Brazil, adding a new source of high-potential avocados to the market.

As part of their business strategies, it is important “to have fruit of optimal quality and condition, allowing us to position Colombia as a reliable supplier in the most important international markets,” Cerda emphasizes. While local avocado production has carved out a niche in destination markets, the Colombian avocado industry needs to evolve in terms of the quality and condition of its exported fruit. Thus, thanks to this agreement, both companies will seek to generate synergies to develop a robust work plan, so that the end consumer can have the best possible purchasing experience.

“This is a fundamental aspect, because in this way, consumers will be able to repeat the purchase, being sure that they are taking a product that meets all their expectations,” says Cerda, about a partnership that comes at a unique moment, in which exhaustive work is needed to meet the requirements of international markets.
