Avolution Lab launches the Avo Oleo project to add value to discarded avocados
The new project seeks to utilize avocado by-products unsuitable for fresh consumption, focusing on the extraction and quality improvement of avocado oil through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Avolution Lab, known for its innovative projects in the avocado sector, has announced the launch of the Avo Oleo project. This new initiative aims to add value to avocados unsuitable for fresh consumption by using them for oil extraction. "Our goal is to help add value to avocados that are not intended for fresh consumption," stated Enrique García, CEO of Avolution Lab, during the recent partner meeting where the successful Avoguys and Avoreca projects were also reviewed.
The Avo Oleo project will not only focus on utilizing discarded avocados, but will also explore the culinary possibilities of avocado peels and seeds through the Avowaste project, in collaboration with various hospitality schools. "The responsible and sustainable management and use of avocados that cannot reach the market or the industry is our biggest challenge," explained García, highlighting the lack of prior attention to research and improvement in avocado oil extraction processes.
To carry out this ambitious project, Avolution Lab has created a multidisciplinary team that includes avocado producers, marketers, oil factories, refineries, and large oil distribution companies, as well as waste composting companies. This team will be interconnected with universities, technology centers, culinary schools, doctors, and nutritionists. They will also have the support of scientists from the Instituto de la Grasa (Institute of Fat), a world-renowned institution in the study of oils and fats. García concluded by inviting all avocado oil producers worldwide to join this collaborative effort to improve processes and market their products.
