Increased shipments of large avocados expected in the coming weeks

The shortage of avocados, especially large ones, at the beginning of the year has been offset by early imports from the southern hemisphere, according to industry experts.

Mark Everett, director of Worldwide Fruit's avocado business unit, points out that the beginning of the year was marked by high prices for raw materials, particularly for larger sizes, due to various factors such as drought in the Axarquía region of Spain and conflicts in Israel that affected production and packaging.

Despite concerns about the hemispheric transition, countries like Peru and South Africa have shipped significant volumes early to supply a market in need. However, a trend toward smaller fruit is being reported, especially in northern Peru, due to lower yields.

An increase in shipments of large-sized avocados is expected in the coming weeks, from both Peru and South Africa. Although medium and small sizes are currently in good supply, it is suggested that promotional activities focus on these more readily available sizes.
