Colombian Hass avocado: 60% of its exports go to Europe and 40% to the United States
The estimated production of more than 206,000 tons and the sustained growth of exports confirm the Hass avocado as one of the biggest economic bets of the Colombian countryside.
The Hass avocado continues to solidify its position as one of the most important crops for Colombia's agricultural and economic development. According to data from Corpohass and the Avocados from Colombia campaign, the country will have a total of 55,000 hectares under cultivation in 2024 and 2025, reflecting the stability and maturity achieved by the sector.
In terms of exports, 40,792 hectares are authorized for international trade, a figure that exceeds the 39,749 hectares registered in 2024. Of this total, 16,972 hectares are located in Zones Most Affected by the Armed Conflict (ZOMAC), which demonstrates the role of avocado in the economic and social recovery of rural territories.
Estimated production also maintains sustained growth: in 2024, 172,365.31 tons were reached, while 206,352.69 tons are projected for 2025. This productive dynamism translates into 81,000 formal jobs and the livelihood of more than 250,000 people who depend directly on the crop and its value chain.
The figures reflect the consolidation of Hass avocados as a key export product. Projected exports for 2025 are 182,000 tons, while between January and September, 139,000 tons had already been exported, according to DIAN/SIICEX.
The international market continues to be led by Europe, which accounts for 60% of total exports, followed by the United States, with the remaining 40%. The quarterly breakdown shows active participation throughout the year: in Europe, shipments reached 33,969 tons in the first quarter, 28,535 in the second, 29,454 in the third, and a projected 40,081 tons in the fourth quarter.
In the United States, 11,482 tons were recorded in the first quarter, 17,982 in the second, 12,131 in the third, and a projection of 29,650 tons in the fourth. In other markets, exports totaled 2,017 tons in the first quarter, 1,605 in the second, 897 in the third, and a projection of 587 tons by year's end.
Furthermore, the production map shows that Colombian Hass avocados are grown in regions such as Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Cundinamarca, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Nariño, Huila, Santander, Norte de Santander, Boyacá, Magdalena and Putumayo, territories that contribute climatic diversity and year-round production availability.
Today, Hass avocados represent employment, sustainability, and opportunities for thousands of rural families in Colombia. Under the "Avocados from Colombia" label, the industry projects stable growth and an increasingly strong presence in international markets.
