Avocado harvest rises 25%, but prices remain low

Mexico

Last week, 33,852 tons of avocados were harvested and 27,118 tons were exported, representing an 80% utilization rate. Virtually 99% of this fruit comes from Michoacán.

The cumulative harvest has reached 1,263,188 tons, 25% more than last season. Exports to the United States total 1,081,046 tons, also 25% higher than the previous cycle. The cumulative yield is 86%.

A harvest of 24,000 tons is expected this week. Mexico's share of the U.S. market is around 79%; the rest comes from California, whose volume has been increasing.

Producer prices rose slightly, but overall we have seen significant stability throughout the season. Even so, these are still historically low prices for producers.

The main alternative markets for Mexico continue to be Canada and Central America, followed by Japan, with a combined volume of close to 3,000 tons.

Have a great week everyone.
