Strong demand for small fruit with limited availability

Mexico

Last week, the harvest destined for the United States reached 28,707 tons , of which 23,003 were exported, representing an 80% utilization rate.

Compared to the previous season, 10% more fruit was shipped in the same week.

For the current week, a harvest of 23,000 tons is projected, with an area in the program of 39,277 hectares , 7% more than last week.

Last week's market share was as follows:

  • Mexico: 69%

  • Peru: 15%

  • California: 14%

  • Colombia: 2% (with a reduced volume)

The market presents a challenging demand: low demand for size 48s , which dominates the size curve, and strong demand for small fruit ( sizes 70s and 84s ), whose availability is limited. Prices for large fruit are trending downward, while those for small fruit are rising, creating considerable confusion in the market.

Hopefully, the demand for different sizes will normalize and we will achieve a more stable market.

I wish you all a wonderful week.
