Mexican avocado: challenges in the final stretch

Mexico

Last week, 24,850 tons of avocados were harvested, of which 23,189 tons were exported to the United States, representing a 93% utilization rate. This week, harvesting and shipments began with a slightly lower volume, and a harvest of around 39,000 tons is expected.

The supply of hectares available for cutting is 24,465, down 12% from last week and 21% lower compared to the same week last year. We are in the final stage of the season, with only 7 weeks remaining until the official start of the 2026-27 season.

Although there is enough fruit to finish the season, the high dry matter content, around 35%, makes marketing challenging. The speed with which the fruit can be moved is crucial, especially with California and Mexico currently supplying the market.

Mexico has a 75% market share, followed by the United States with 19%, Peru with 3%, and Colombia with 3%. We expect the market to remain stable in the coming weeks.

Have a great week everyone!
