Avocado in Mexico: fewer hectares, less harvest

Mexico

Last week, 42,808 tons were harvested, of which 34,779 tons were exported, representing an 81% utilization rate. To date, a total of 1,134,232 tons have been harvested for the United States, with exports of 974,000 tons, 22% more than last year.

The availability of acreage continues to decrease, which is normal for this time of year. Currently, there are 32,512 hectares available, 7% less than last week and 20% less than last season.

The price paid to producers has improved slightly, although it remains 70% lower than last year. Mexico's alternative markets, such as Canada and Central America, account for 90% of exports to other markets.

This week, we will only have three days of harvesting due to the holidays, which will reduce the volume to half of last week's. A harvest of 29,000 tons is expected, which will help maintain healthy inventories.

I wish you all a wonderful week.
