Crop care, Aphis and a new market
Ecuador
Over the past few months, we have been working on cultivating the first flowering of the crops, which will be harvested between November and December 2025, following a severe winter marked by intense rains that battered much of the region. This also comes after the end of a two-year drought caused by El Niño. We have very positive prospects for the upcoming season, with projected production growth of between 30% and 40% compared to the 2024-2025 season.
This growth is no accident. It is the result of improvements in soil nutrition and pest and disease management, greater maturity in our crops—which are still relatively young—and a more stable climate. Significant progress has been made in soil nutrition, pest and disease management, and technical expertise on the farms. This has not only strengthened our yield projections but has also raised the overall quality of our fruit.
On the other hand, we are on the verge of a key milestone: the visit of the United States Agency for Plant and Animal Health Inspection Service (APHIS), from May 27 to 29. Their approval is the final step for our avocados to officially enter the U.S. market. Although June does not represent peak production, having this market approval opens up opportunities that, if properly leveraged, could position Ecuadorian avocados as a new benchmark for our agricultural exports.
Additionally, we have taken the first firm steps in the Canadian market. Despite being a competitive market, dominated by giants like Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, the quality of our fruit is beginning to be recognized. Canadian consumers are discovering the flavor and freshness of Ecuadorian avocados, and this opens new avenues in our market diversification process.
Every bloom that is sustained, every fruit that is exported, every market that opens, is a commitment to sustainable development, to the well-being of our value chain, and to the country's international standing. Ecuador is literally blossoming, and the world is beginning to take notice.
