Price increases and a reduction in available orchards in the Mexican avocado harvest

In week 30, 11,201 tons were harvested, of which 9,981 tons were exported to the United States.

Week 31 began with a faster harvest pace, even though the farmgate price has risen substantially, from around 50.00 pesos to around 60.00 pesos. This is due to the shortage of both black fruit, which is practically ending its season, and the new crop of "loco" fruit, which isn't ready due to insufficient dry matter. The increased demand for Mexican fruit, resulting from reduced supply from other countries, is also a factor. Volatility will continue for a few more weeks until the market finds a balance between supply and demand.

This week the number of hectares available for harvesting is slightly lower than last week, but with current prices, producers will surely seek to begin their harvest, so we expect more tons to be exported this week.

The size range can be balanced between the black fruit with larger fruit and the crazy fruit which is more medium to small fruit, thus supplying the need for all sizes.

For the time being, Mexico will continue to complement other origins in the market, but I estimate that by September we will once again regain prominence in market share.

I wish you an excellent week.
