Week 27: Decrease in Supply and Preference for Black Fruit in Exports

In week 27, 14,927 tons were harvested, and 12,422 tons were exported to the United States. It is estimated that the majority of this exported fruit was black fruit, with a smaller percentage being fruit from the new season. Black fruit is of better quality and has a more uniform size distribution, so as long as black fruit is available, the market will continue to prefer it, always taking price levels into account.
The supply for this week in orchards decreased very little, about 2%, but if we compare it with last season there is a significant reduction of 35%.
Estimated shipments this week are around 12,000 tons and are related to competition and availability from other sources such as California and Peru. In a few weeks, California will reduce its supply and Mexico will have to make up for that lack of volume.
The new fruit harvest will be delayed a little while there is enough black fruit, it will help it have better dry matter and ripen better.
Hopefully, in August Mexico will take on the role of main supplier and the volume we have will be sufficient to cover market needs.
I wish you all a wonderful week.
