Standardization and challenges in the Mexican market

Mexico

Last week, Mexico harvested 16,815 tons of avocados, of which 15,395 tons were exported, representing a 92% utilization rate. This was likely a consequence of the tariffs and the instability created by President Trump's stance.

However, this week Mexico's volume has normalized, and a harvest of around 23,000 tons is expected. Next week will be a very short week, with only Monday through Wednesday as working days due to the Easter holidays, which could affect the avocado supply.

On the other hand, this week - as expected - the volume of hectares available for cutting begins to decrease, there are 36,601 hectares, 10% less than last week and 16% less than the same week of the previous season.

Demand has dropped slightly due to existing inventory in the US market, but it is expected that inventory will be cleared again next week, and Easter week will begin with a demand for fruit.

California has begun its harvest in significant quantities and will capture its share of the market. The next major consumption date is May 5th, so the market will be demanding a substantial amount of fruit.

The Mexican avocado market faces both challenges and opportunities in the 2025 season. Normalized volume from Mexico, declining demand, and increasing supply from California are factors that could impact the market. However, with sound planning and coordination, it is possible to maintain stability and ensure a high-quality supply for consumers.

Let's hope the market remains stable in the coming weeks.

Have a great week everyone!
