Mexico harvests more avocados than ever before

Mexico

Last week, Mexico harvested 39,600 tons and exported 33,700, representing an 85% utilization rate. To date, 22% more fruit has been shipped compared to the previous season.

This week's harvest is expected to be around 32,000 tons, due to Monday's holiday which halted harvesting. There are 37,637 hectares available for cutting, 2% less than last week.

Harvest volumes remain very strong and no significant reductions are expected, except during Holy Week, when there will be several holidays and no harvest. A strong promotion is expected for May 5th, with abundant volume.

California's harvest has been delayed, so we're likely to see increased volume from this origin in the coming weeks. Exports to other origins remain at the same levels: Canada is the second largest market, followed by Central America.

The fruit currently harvested in Mexico has high levels of dry matter, which translates into a very good flavor, but requires more care in terms of logistics.

Have a great week everyone.
