Mexico: Market Comments Week 14
In week 13, 19,665 tons were harvested and 21,253 tons were exported in the 4 days that Mexico had to send to the United States market. The inventory in Mexico was cleared and as much as possible was sent trying to cover the holidays.
As expected, inventory in the US market increased significantly. We hope that sales will continue to improve this week and that we will return to balanced inventories. We expect a stable market for the time being.
The harvest began in week 14, and at the pace we've seen in recent weeks, we're projecting to reach close to 30,000 tons this week. April is a month of significant demand due to the May 5th promotion, so the Mexican supply will remain abundant. We could reach 100,000 tons if the supply from producers continues as it has in recent weeks.
California has begun harvesting, and it will be interesting to see the strategy they use to move their volume, as most of it will remain in California seeking its market niche.
Mexico's shipments to other markets remain present in Canada and Japan with small volumes, also in Central America, but shipments to Europe and China have stopped due to the fruit's ripening conditions and the risk of it arriving in poor condition.
Have a great week everyone!
