Avocado season in Mexico: A scenario of record prices
Mexico
Week 7 of the avocado report in Mexico has been intense, with a harvest of 17,073 tons and exports of 14,736 tons to the United States, representing an 86% utilization rate. However, what is noteworthy is the significant increase in farmgate prices, suggesting that the avocado season in Mexico will remain at record levels.
The season's curve continues to show a dominance of smaller sizes, 60s and smaller, which has generated high expectations of sustained high prices for the remainder of the season. The supply of game and hectares decreased by 13% to 41,292 hectares, which is a normal trend for this time of year.
What's important to note is that current price levels are at record highs for Mexico. However, in the coming weeks, Mexico will begin to experience increased competition from California and Colombia, which could affect prices. Nevertheless, the market level appears likely to remain at record highs, especially for fruit aged 48 days and older.
The avocado season in Mexico is progressing favorably, with record prices and high demand. However, it's important to stay alert to market changes and the competition that's coming.
Excellent week for everyone!
