Avocado season in Mexico: a scenario of high prices and increased harvest
Mexico
Week 7 in Mexico has been a busy one for the avocado sector, with a harvest of 25,580 tons and exports of 18,996 tons to the United States, representing a 73% utilization rate. This indicates a significant inventory remaining for this week, which has already begun to be shipped.
This week's harvest is expected to be even stronger, exceeding 30,000 tons. This could lead to increased inventory in the market, especially for smaller sizes, which might force the market to adjust prices. However, prices have remained at record highs, and the general expectation is that the market will continue to pay premium prices.
The supply of fruit and acreage increased by 8% compared to last week, due to the good prices being paid to producers. To date, 761,227 tons have been harvested, and the estimated remaining harvest ranges between 400,000 and 450,000 tons.
In the coming months, there will be factors that could change market conditions, such as the start and weekly volume from California and other origins, the start of the new season in Mexico, especially in Jalisco, and the possible imposition of tariffs on avocado imports.
The avocado season in Mexico is progressing favorably, with record prices and an increased harvest. However, it's important to monitor market changes and variables that could affect conditions in the coming months.
I wish you a wonderful week!
