The Mexican avocado industry is preparing for a challenging month

Mexico

Last week, Mexico harvested 31,520 tons of avocados, of which 22,871 tons were exported, representing a 72% utilization rate. This indicates that there is a significant volume of fruit in cold storage that will be released to the market this week.

The harvest increased significantly this week, with farmgate prices rising and strong demand due to declining inventories following the tariff week. Additionally, Monday's holiday in Mexico impacted the harvest, further contributing to the fruit shortage.

We expect demand to remain strong in the coming weeks, especially given the uncertainty surrounding the imposition of tariffs on April 2nd. President Trump's policies have created significant market uncertainty.

April will be a challenging month for the avocado industry. In addition to tariffs, Holy Week will also impact the harvest, as there will be three days without harvesting. This could affect supply by May 5th.

The supply of hectares available for harvesting has increased by 5% compared to last week. Prices for producers are very attractive, which has motivated many to harvest and take advantage of the opportunity.

We expect prices to remain relatively stable in the coming weeks and will be watching the start of the harvest in California and its impact on the market.

Have a great week everyone.
