Mexican avocado exports to the US and Canada

In week 29, 10,791 tons were harvested, and 12,274 tons were exported to the United States market. This week's harvest began with approximately 2,000 tons, and the estimate is that we will reach 10,000 tons by the end of the week. Canada remains the second most important destination, receiving between 800 and 1,000 tons.

Although Mexican fruit is experiencing good turnover in the market, we are still only covering the market share that California and Peru do not have. Mexico will take on a more prominent role when these origins begin to reduce their harvests.

This season Mexico has exported 10% less fruit compared to the previous season, due to two factors: the volume from other origins, especially California, and the limited availability of fruit in Mexico, including the low dry matter content of wild fruit due to the late flowering and the end of the black fruit harvest.

The total supply of hectares for cutting this week in the United States program is 15,032, representing 41% less than last year in the same week.

The next few weeks will be very interesting. Will Mexico be able to supply the market once other sources reduce their volume? Will dry matter and size distribution be factors that radically change the market?

We will need to pay attention and evaluate the weeks to determine the strategies to follow in August.

I wish you an excellent week.
