The impact of the US tariff on the Mexican avocado industry

Mexico

Week 9 was a pivotal moment for the avocado industry in Mexico. Despite a record harvest of 24,124 tons, exports to the United States were impacted by the implementation of a 25% tariff. This led to significant disruption and a very low harvest volume.

The question on everyone's mind is whether the market will absorb this price increase. Will producers lower prices to compensate for the tariff? These questions will be answered in the coming weeks, and the export chain will adapt to the new realities.

The tariff may be eliminated in the short term due to its implications for both countries. Meanwhile, the current harvest is 815,000 tons, with approximately 350,000 tons remaining.

This week is about adjusting to the new reality, and next week it will be interesting to see if producers are willing to increase the harvest volume. The supply of available hectares is down 3% this week.

The avocado industry is currently facing a period of uncertainty, but with a great opportunity to adapt and continue growing.

Have a great week everyone.
