Challenges in the avocado harvest in Mexico: high inventories and price adjustments

Last week, Mexico's harvest decreased significantly due to a combination of two factors: high market inventory forced exporters to adjust prices, which led some producers to prefer waiting for prices to improve.

The total harvested volume was 19,334 tons and exports to the United States closed the week with 18,167 tons, leaving just over a thousand tons in cold storage.

This week the harvest begins in the same way, a little slow and only 4 thousand tons, surely today the shipments that go out will be few due to the low inventory that remained over the weekend in the cold storage of the packing plants.

This week, the available hectares decreased by 6% in Jalisco and Michoacan together, leaving a total of 29,857 hectares.

Hopefully, demand will balance out across the entire range of sizes, although it seems that all supplier origins have a surplus of fruit 60s and younger.

Mexico is reaching 90% of the estimated harvest for this season and the new harvest is expected to be released at the beginning of June as long as it meets the quality standards in dry matter.

I wish you an excellent week
