Avocado harvesting and export: Week 19 analysis

In week 19, 24,073 tons were harvested and 18,170 were exported, leaving a significant amount of inventory in cold storage and fruit also for the national market and processing.
Quality is becoming an important factor when choosing fruit; there is a growing amount of overripe fruit that is risky to send to market, largely due to the lack of water during the rainy season.
In week 20 the cut has decreased significantly, basically due to two factors: high inventories in the market and some producers who have the option want to wait for a better price.
A harvest of around 20,000 tons and shipments of about 16,000 tons are expected.
It is estimated that around 120,000 tons of black fruit remain, and it seems that the crazy fruit will begin harvesting in the first week of June. Jalisco has already started the new season for other markets (national, Japan, Canada).
Hopefully, inventory will decrease next week and the market will stabilize.
Have a great week everyone!
