Avocado harvest: week 20 analysis and outlook

Week 20 ended with 19,203 tons and 15,149 were exported to the United States. Sales conditions and inventory forced the Mexican industry to slow the harvest pace. On one hand, excess inventory and on the other hand, producers waiting for a better price caused a considerable reduction in shipments.

The domestic market has maintained a good price level, which helps producers have another alternative if they cannot move fruit for export.

Week 21 began with a very low cutting volume of 2,000 tons, although it will surely increase by Tuesday; however, we expect another week of no more than 16,000 tons of exports to the United States.

In a few weeks, Mexico has gone from being practically the only supplier to being below 70%, with California's production at full capacity, and Peru and Colombia increasing their volume.

In June there is the possibility of having 5 different products on the market: Mexico with crazy and black fruit, California, Peru and Colombia.

By the end of May, Mexico will face several challenges to remain a reliable supplier. The remaining questions are how much black fruit is still available and when the next season will begin.

Have a great week everyone!
