Avocado for everyone: Mexico harvests and exports strongly

Mexico

Last week, Mexico harvested 33,840 tons of avocados, of which 27,123 tons were exported, representing an 80% utilization rate. This week, a harvest of around 28,000 tons is expected, which is surprising for this time of year, as producers typically prefer to wait until January.

The area available for harvest remains virtually unchanged from last week, at 27,603 hectares. Although the available area is lower than in previous years, the volumes are still at record levels, providing an indication of the increase in productivity per hectare.

This week and next will be a little lower in volume, but surely starting in January and with the Super Bowl event, we will see large volumes from Mexico, which is practically the only supplier origin.

The only downside of this season was the price, which after having record high prices in the first months of the year, ended the year with record low prices.

Sizes remain high in the 48s and 60s. Mexico's alternative markets continue to dominate Canada, Central America, and Asia with small volumes.

Merry christmas!

I wish you a Merry Christmas in the company of your families, and a prosperous New Year full of success and prosperity.
