Mexico breaks Guinness World Record with historic bowl of guacamole

The Mexican avocado industry achieved a new Guinness World Record after creating the largest bowl of guacamole ever recorded, weighing a total of 6.8 metric tons. The milestone was reached during the 13th annual Avocado Festival held in Tancítaro, Michoacán, where more than a thousand producers and community members participated in preparing the gigantic dish in just two and a half hours. The event was highlighted by the Avocado Institute of Mexico as a demonstration of Mexico's global leadership in avocado production and export.

The record comes at a particularly positive time for the Mexican industry, which projects record exports to the United States during the 2026 season. According to industry estimates, Mexican avocado shipments will exceed 2.5 billion pounds this year, solidifying Mexico as the only source with the capacity to continuously supply the U.S. market on a large scale throughout the year.

Industry representatives emphasized that the true value of the record transcends the number achieved. Raúl Martínez, president of APEAM, noted that the accomplishment reflects the collective strength of the entire production chain, from the producers to the teams responsible for ensuring quality, logistics, and commercial efficiency. He also affirmed that regaining the Guinness World Record represents the sector's commitment to continuing to position Michoacán as the world's leading avocado producer.

The world title thus returned to Tancítaro after remaining two years in the hands of Peribán, the town that had set the previous record in 2022 with a bowl of 4,972 metric tons. Meanwhile, the industry continues to strengthen international promotional efforts, such as the upcoming Global Avocado Summit 2026 in Chile, an event that will bring together producers, exporters, and key players in the global trade to analyze the future and sustainability of the avocado business.
