Peruvian avocado exports grow 36.6% in 2026

Peruvian exports of fresh avocados registered strong growth during the first quarter of 2026, reaching US$237 million, a 36.6% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from SUNAT (Peru's tax authority) released by Comex Perú (Peru's trade association). The campaign's dynamism was primarily driven by increased export volumes, which totaled 104,365 tons between January and March, 27.8% more than in the same period of 2025.

Europe continued to lead the demand for Peruvian avocados, with the Netherlands consolidating its position as the main export destination. During the period analyzed, that market received 45,036 tons valued at US$101 million, accounting for 43% of total exports. Shipments to Asia also showed positive performance, especially to China, which became the third largest destination with purchases of US$25.3 million, reflecting a growth of 15.8%.

South Korea also stood out among the fastest-growing markets for Peruvian avocados. Exports to that country grew 32.8% in value during the first quarter, driven by a 37.2% increase in volume, reaching 2,188 tons shipped. Domestically, Lima remained the country's leading exporting region, accounting for 54.6% of national shipments, followed by Ica, La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Áncash.

Looking ahead to the end of the 2026 season, ProHass projects that Peruvian Hass avocado exports will exceed 765,000 tons, representing a 6% increase compared to 2025. Although the growth rate is expected to be slower than last year, the sector maintains positive expectations based on the product's growing international presence. However, the industry also emphasizes the importance of strengthening quality standards, particularly regarding cadmium control and ensuring harvests with a minimum of 22% dry matter to guarantee proper ripening and fruit condition at destination.
