US ANALYSIS

Avocado shipments to the US grow 28% in week 15

Shipments grew strongly in week 15, as California expanded its presence and the market projects new opportunities for the summer.

Week 15 revealed a more active avocado market in the United States, with 1,864 shipments arriving, representing a 28% increase compared to the previous week and a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The surge confirms greater fruit movement in the main North American destination, at a stage where supply is beginning to be reorganized by origin.

One of the most noticeable changes this week was Mexico's reduced relative share, explained by California's advance. Although Mexico continues to dominate with 82% of the market, California increased its share to 18%, supported by a 35% increase in production compared to the previous week. In contrast, South American shipments remain scarce, and in the case of Peru, they have yet to establish a significant presence.

In terms of prices, the situation was relatively stable. Prices remained at levels very similar to the previous week, with a 3% decrease in the larger sizes, particularly size 48, although there were no drastic changes in the overall market. Even so, the context continues to show signs of pressure. Antonio Villaseñor warned that prices remain depressed and that inventory continues to increase, awaiting sales related to the Cinco de Mayo holiday, which are expected to help alleviate some of the accumulated volume next week.

Beyond the immediate situation, the US market is beginning to look ahead to the coming months with more favorable expectations for demand. Giovanni Cavaletto noted that the summer could offer abundant promotional opportunities, driven by a calendar packed with high-profile events, including the World Cup matches in North America for six weeks, the Olympic Games, and the Fourth of July celebrations. In this scenario, the evolution of consumption could usher in a new phase for the market, at a time when supply is beginning to pick up.
