Consumption drives up avocado prices in the US

The US market maintains stable volumes, with Mexico leading the supply and active demand sustaining the rise in sizes 48 and 60.

During week 19, the United States market recorded approximately 1,630 avocado arrivals between trucks and containers, a volume practically the same as the previous week, with a slight decrease of 1%, although still 6% above what was observed in the same week of 2025.

The market structure maintains the same trend as in recent weeks, with Mexico consolidating its leadership and controlling 78% of the total supply. California holds second place with 21%, while the Dominican Republic and small volumes from Colombia make up the remaining 1%.

In terms of prices, the week showed positive performance for some strategic sizes. Sizes 48 and 60 saw further increases, as did the larger sizes, while smaller sizes, such as size 70, remained stable or experienced slight decreases. Size 48 continues to be the most valuable in the market and, along with size 60, has now completed its third consecutive week of progressive increases.

Antonio Villaseñor highlighted that avocado consumption in the United States grew 25% in April compared to the previous season, accompanied by a record volume for Mexican fruit. He explained that this increased demand has sustained commercial activity during a key period for the industry.

Similarly, Gary Klevenger noted that the sales boost from Cinco de Mayo were strong across the industry, allowing for inventory clearance and maintaining stable demand in the retail sector. Now, market attention shifts to promotions linked to Memorial Day, a key date for avocado consumption.

Another relevant piece of data from the week was the comparative performance between the United States and Europe. For the first time this year, the price of a .48 caliber bullet in the United States surpassed that of an .18 caliber bullet in Europe.
