Mexico leads the world in Hass avocado supply with Michoacán

Mexico and Peru led the world supply of Hass avocados in the first half of 2026, with Michoacán reaching 38,400 containers.

The United States solidified its position as the leading importer of Hass avocados during the first half of 2026. What is striking is the sheer volume received: approximately 44,000 containers, placing it well ahead of all other international markets. Europe ranked second with 24,900 containers, confirming that these two destinations continue to largely account for global demand for this fruit.

Further down the list were other markets with a significant share of the global destination map. Canada registered 3,100 containers, followed by Chile with 1,900 and Japan with 1,700 shipments. China received 1,500 containers, while Argentina and South Korea completed the list with 1,284 and 500 containers, respectively.

Although these figures are far from the volumes of the United States and the European bloc, their presence provides a more complete picture of international trade in the first half of the year.

China led in prices while the United States rebounded at the close

Taking as a reference the equivalent size calibers among the main markets observed by Avobook, such as caliber 18 for China, Spain and Europe, versus its equivalent caliber 48 in the United States, FOT prices moved during the semester between a maximum of 6.23 USD/kg and a minimum of 1.70 USD/kg.

Trade behavior showed highly disparate dynamics depending on the region. China recorded the highest values of the period, driven by a strong rebound that took prices to a peak of USD 6.23/kg around week 18.

In contrast, Europe and Spain traded within much more contained ranges and closed the first half of the year with a clear downward trend, approaching the low of $1.70 USD/kg. Meanwhile, the United States began the year as the cheapest destination among the markets analyzed; however, around week 22, it experienced a sharp rise, exceeding $5.50 USD/kg before resuming a downward trend.

Strong export growth in Michoacán and Jalisco

On the global supply side, the ranking of top exporting countries confirmed Mexico's absolute dominance in Hass avocado exports. The state of Michoacán clearly topped the list, increasing its shipments from 29,400 containers in the first half of 2025 to 38,400 in the same period of 2026. Peru followed in second place, also showing growth in its shipments, albeit at a more moderate pace, increasing from 19,100 to 20,500 containers.

The remainder of the export supply was distributed among origins that maintained steady growth. California contributed 5,400 containers, while Jalisco consolidated its growth by increasing its shipments from 3,000 to 4,400 containers. In South America, Colombia positioned itself with 2,500 containers, Chile contributed 1,500, and Brazil registered a significant increase, rising from 800 to 1,200 containers.

The overall picture for the first half of the year positions both Mexico, with the added contribution of Michoacán and Jalisco, and Peru as the central drivers of international supply. Furthermore, the fact that most origins have registered year-on-year growth reinforces the expansion of global supply in the face of demand that remains concentrated primarily in the United States and Europe.
