CIPALTO 2026 confirms its program and the participation of experts in Trujillo

The V International Hass Avocado Congress in Peru (CIPALTO 2026) will once again bring together specialists, researchers, growers, and companies involved in the crop this year, in a new edition focused on technical updates for the sector. The event aims to consolidate its position as a platform for exchange on innovation, agronomic management, postharvest practices, and competitiveness for the Peruvian avocado industry.

When and where will the event take place?

CIPALTO 2026 will take place on September 10 and 11, 2026, at the Costa del Sol Wyndham Hotel, located at Calle Los Cocoteros 505, Urb. El Golf, in the city of Trujillo, Peru.

Why is this event being held?

The new edition of the congress comes in response to the need to continue strengthening the transfer of technical knowledge surrounding Hass avocado cultivation, within an industry facing growing demands for productivity, resilience, and competitiveness. Under the central theme "Biologicals and Postharvest," the organizers present the event as a key opportunity to share tools and practical experiences related to crop management and improving Peru’s avocado supply in international markets.

What is the objective of the event and what will it cover?

According to official information, the congress will address strategic topics related to the establishment, management, postharvest handling, and commercialization of Hass avocados. The technical program includes key topics such as:

• Agroclimatic outlooks and physiological changes following the El Niño phenomenon.
• Soil microbiological management, biofertilization, and the use of microorganisms in induced plant defense.
• Tools to mitigate environmental stress and the use of sun protectants.
• Technologies for efficient irrigation, nutrition for high yields, and advances in cadmium management through biofertilizers.
• Postharvest strategies to preserve fruit quality from the field through to export destinations.

A Technical Program Structured Around Two Specialized Days

The academic schedule for CIPALTO 2026 will span two days of keynote presentations, beginning on Thursday, September 10, at 7:15 a.m. with the accreditation process. Following the welcome remarks and the opening panel discussion on the challenges facing the sector, the first day will focus on the production environment and soil.

Dr. Gustavo Iwanaga (Peru) will open the presentations by analyzing the agroclimatic outlook for the 2026–2027 season on Peru’s northern coast, followed by Eng. Mario Pozo (Peru), who will address the physiological changes caused by the El Niño phenomenon and their impact on yield and plant health.

During the afternoon of the first day, microbiology and soil health will take center stage. MSc. Mauricio Navarro (Mexico) will challenge conventional views on microbiological management in avocado, while Dr. Mariana Puente (Argentina) will present on biofertilization in sustainable agricultural models.

The day will conclude with presentations by MSc. Braulio Lemus (Mexico) on regenerative agriculture and Venezuelan specialists MSc. Vianellys Hernández and Biologist Carlos Rodríguez, who will address the use of microorganisms to activate induced plant defense.

Meanwhile, Friday, September 11, will focus on nutrition, stress mitigation, and export quality. The morning will begin with a presentation by MSc. Isaías Segovia (Peru) on agronomic and microbiological keys in Hass avocado, followed by presentations from MSc. Pedro Castillo (Chile) on environmental stress mitigation and Eng. Mauricio del Real (Chile/Genomics) on efficient irrigation technologies.

Before lunch, Dr. Juan Cabrera (Peru) will analyze the effectiveness of bioprotectants against pests, while Dr. Richard Solórzano (Peru) will present advances in cadmium management through microorganisms during the nursery stage.

The final afternoon session will delve deeper into physiology and postharvest management. MSc. Tomás Gallardo (Chile/Ferpac) will complement the cadmium analysis with nutritional strategies in the fruit, while Dr. Thomas Fichet (Chile) will present on new plant hormones.

Following MSc. Braulio Lemus’ (Mexico) presentation on sun protectants to combat climate stress, Eng. Sara Álvarez (Peru) will conclude the keynote presentations by addressing the logistical challenges involved in preserving Hass avocado quality from the field through to international destinations, followed by the sponsors’ prize draw and closing reception.
