Mexican avocado exports exceed 1.1M t

Mexico

In week 18, Mexico exported 1,179 shipments of avocados to the United States. The 2025-2026 season continues to report record figures; as of the end of this week, 1.1 million tons have been exported to the United States this season. Mexico supplied enough fruit well in advance to ensure a smooth supply for Cinco de Mayo promotions.

During week 18, market prices saw some adjustments for sizes 40s and larger, and towards the weekend, sizes 60s and 70s experienced some downward pressure. It will be interesting to see how prices behave, given that farmgate prices remain firm and unlikely to decrease. At this point in the season, fruit production in Mexico is concentrated in higher altitude areas and among producers with larger acreages, thus offering greater negotiating power. Meanwhile, the domestic market remains strong and has absorbed significant quantities of both large and small fruit at competitive prices compared to exports.

However, the market is not expected to change in the coming weeks, nor are prices expected to rise. Mexico still has sufficient volume to maintain exports at a good level, and the volume already being harvested in California guarantees a strong supply for the coming weeks.

Jalisco has practically finished its harvest for this season. It is expected that in two to three weeks there will be fruit from the new season in good condition in terms of dry matter. However, the start date for the harvest of this fruit for the United States market has not been defined, although some of this fruit is already being harvested for other markets, mainly Canada and Japan.

The weather in the producing regions is typical for this time of year: dry and hot. Producers who still have fruit should consider what might happen in the market in the coming weeks given the imminent arrival of Peruvian fruit in June. While Peru has shipped 35% more tons to Europe compared to last year, it is still expected to gain a foothold in the US market.
