California accelerates harvest amid peak summer demand

USA

California's avocado industry maintained a solid harvest pace last week, with approximately 18 million pounds of Hass and 1.2 million pounds of GEM harvested. These volumes reflect the strength of California's production during the peak summer season.

Following the sharp price increase last week, the market spent much of the past week establishing a new equilibrium. The focus now is not on whether the industry can move the fruit, but on how quickly retail promotions and increased consumer demand can absorb the available volumes.

The next two weeks will be a key period for the California market. With World Cup gatherings and Fourth of July promotions driving retail activity, a more dynamic period is expected. Avocados remain a staple for social occasions, and these seasonal factors should help sustain significant weekly harvest volumes.

California growers anticipate maintaining a similar harvest schedule this week, meaning a significant volume of fruit will once again enter the market. Coordination with promotions will be critical, as a successful sales period will help maintain balanced inventories and contribute to greater market stability.

Overall, the outlook remains positive. Fruit quality has been excellent, consumer demand remains strong, and the coming weeks will be crucial for market performance at the height of the summer season.
