Avobook Report Preview W34-2024

Mexico is pulling ahead of the rest in the United States, China is not recovering in volume, and Europe is improving prices in Spain.

In week 34 of the North American market, Mexico consolidated its leadership as the main supplier of avocados (61% market share), while California held second place with locally grown fruit. Peru continued its slight decline in volume, and Colombia, for the first time since week 15, fell below 2 million pounds per week. Chile, which started its season slowly due to the cold weather, managed to ship the same number of containers to Europe and the United States, but a rebound is expected in the coming weeks. Prices for large sizes remained stable, but fell for almost all smaller sizes.

In Europe, Peru continues to dominate exports, accounting for 80% of the 588 containers that arrived, followed by South Africa (13%). Colombia and Kenya registered low volumes, while Chile, although it started its season early, has not yet significantly impacted this market. Prices in Europe remained stable, with a slight increase in larger sizes in Spain.

In China, avocado intake remained low compared to the previous year, but with higher prices for smaller sizes.
