Overview of the European market
Holland
The start of the year looks interesting and, above all, challenging. Weather conditions in Europe, especially in ports, are significantly affecting the punctuality of container shipments, leading to market shortages and, consequently, higher prices.
After the Christmas holidays, supermarket chains have cleared their shelves, generating noticeable demand, although not as high as in previous years at this time. However, supply is even more limited. In Spain, the weather has been unfavorable for the harvest in the last month, so Europe has not yet seen the expected volumes from this country. Morocco has announced a 30% reduction in its exports compared to last year, and the weather has also affected its plans. Israel is finishing its Hass season and will begin exporting more, while Colombia is starting its main season, which could change the distribution of containers and allow us to see more large and medium-sized fruit.
In the market, PE avocados from the highlands are also appearing, which Peru usually exports to China at this time of year, but the large and medium sizes are arriving in Europe. Prices in the Dutch market have increased significantly in recent weeks. For example:
– MA (14-20 gauge): €15.00-€16.00
– PE (14-20 gauge): €14.00-€15.00
– DO/CO (14-20 gauge): €13.00-14.00
– IL (14-20 gauge): €13.00-€14.00
The smaller calibers (22/24) have had slightly lower prices.
