Europe seeks its balance: avocado supply and demand in April
Spain
The challenge in Europe persists. Initial forecasts for Mediterranean fruit indicated that April would be a bountiful month for Spain, Morocco, and Portugal. However, 20 days of rain in Spain and increased demand in Morocco during Ramadan have accelerated the end of the season.
Furthermore, Peruvian exports to Europe have started more slowly than in previous years, due to the belief that the Mediterranean had a larger supply of fruit. This has led to a very limited supply of fruit in the European market, especially of larger sizes, in the first weeks of April.
Peru's production curve is skewed towards medium-sized fruit, adding complexity to the market. In 2025, Peru faces the challenge of managing its record-breaking harvest. If Europe is once again overloaded with fruit during key weeks, price saturation is likely.
At the consumption level, there is a significant increase in demand, especially among younger consumers, who will be the consumers of the future. This trend suggests that the avocado industry remains promising, provided that supply and demand challenges can be managed effectively.
