The end of the Peruvian campaign: Challenges and opportunities in the European market

Peru's main avocado season comes to an end in week 39, marking the end of a record-breaking season in terms of both volume and prices. However, this conclusion coincides with a supply gap that could create instability in the European market.

The reduction in consumption due to high prices has not been enough to offset the fruit shortage, which may lead some traders and producers to make hasty decisions. The risk of forcing the start of the harvest at the source could result in unripe fruit that does not ripen properly, causing confusion and problems in the markets.

On the other hand, Chile has already begun sending its first shipments to Europe, with low volumes but with the quality that characterizes this origin. Colombia and Israel will also join soon, although with limited volumes. This transition may be challenging, but it also presents opportunities for those willing to adapt.

High quality and volumes exceeding those of 2023 have characterized the Peruvian campaign, which concludes with record prices. Now, the European market must prepare for a new chapter, where efficient supply management and quality will be key to maintaining consumer confidence.

In short, the changing of the guard in the European avocado market requires caution and foresight. Traders and producers must prioritize quality and ripeness to avoid problems and ensure a prosperous future for this constantly growing sector.
