Chilean avocado closes a record season and exceeds expectations
Production reached 265,000 tons, exceeding initial estimates and consolidating the good moment for Chilean avocados.
The 2025-2026 Chilean avocado season concluded with results that exceeded industry expectations. According to Paltas de Chile, total production reached 265,000 tons, surpassing initial projections and the volume recorded in the previous season, when the country achieved 240,000 tons, its best performance in the last 15 years.
The industry association explained that this growth was driven by favorable weather conditions, greater adoption of technology, and improvements in agronomic practices, factors that allowed for increased orchard productivity. For Francisco Contardo, executive president of Paltas de Chile, the results reflect the sector's ability to increase production even with a smaller cultivated area.
Exports accounted for 61% of the national harvest, with 160,500 tons shipped to international markets. Europe remained the primary destination, receiving over 99,000 tons, followed by Latin America, Asia, and North America. According to Contardo, the quality, traceability, and reputation of Chilean avocados have allowed them to consolidate their presence in demanding markets and open new business opportunities.
The domestic market also played a key role during the season. Approximately 104,500 tons were destined for local consumption, driven by Chileans' strong preference for this fruit. In fact, per capita consumption reached 8.9 kilos in 2025, positioning Chile as the second largest consumer of Hass avocados in the world, second only to Mexico.
