Chilean avocados close the 2025-2026 season with 265,000 tons of production, exceeding initial estimates

Chilean Hass avocados exceeded initial industry estimates and consolidate a new production floor for the industry.

  • The harvest exceeded the sector's projections, which pointed to 255,000 tons, and confirms the fruit's current success.
  • According to data from Paltas de Chile, 61% of the volume was destined for exports, with Europe as the main market, followed by Latin America and Asia.

The 2025-2026 Chilean Hass avocado season closed with a total volume of 265,000 tons, a figure that exceeded the sector's initial estimates and consolidates a new production floor for the industry, following the positive 2024-2025 campaign, which had reached 240,000 tons, this being the best record in 15 years.

This performance is explained by a combination of favorable weather conditions, good agronomic management, and greater incorporation of technology in the fields—factors that have allowed for increased yields and strengthened the competitiveness of Chilean avocados. In recent years, the industry has advanced in more efficient management practices, focusing on productivity, quality, traceability, and sustainability.

Of the total produced during the season, 160,500 tons were destined for international markets, equivalent to 61% of the harvest. Europe remained the main destination, with 99,011 tons and a 61.7% share of total exports. This was followed by Latin America, with 41,403.7 tons and a 25.8% share; Asia, with 16,026.6 tons and 10%; and North America, with 4,028.1 tons, equivalent to 2.5%.

The domestic market, meanwhile, absorbed approximately 104,500 tons, confirming Chile's continued central role as a destination for Chilean avocados. This characteristic distinguishes the industry within the fruit sector, given that a significant portion of production is consumed locally, driven by Chileans' strong preference for the fruit.

Francisco Contardo, CEO of Paltas de Chile, highlighted that “closing the season with 265,000 tons is very good news for the industry, because it confirms that the sector has managed to consolidate a significant volume, even with less cultivated land. Therefore, this result speaks to a sector that has been able to adapt, incorporate technology, and improve its management practices to produce more and better.”

“Chile boasts avocados renowned for their quality, flavor, traceability, and high agricultural practices. This positioning has allowed us to maintain a strong presence in demanding markets like Europe, continue growing in Latin America, and explore new opportunities in destinations where Chilean avocados are increasingly valued,” he added.

Currently, Chilean fruit reaches nearly 40 markets, establishing itself as a premium product within the national fruit offering. This global presence is the result of decades of work focused on quality, safety, and consumer confidence.
