Westfalia confirms shipment of its first commercial batch of Australian avocados to India

In November 2023, India approved the import of Hass avocados from Australia, and Westfalia Fruit, a multinational producer, confirmed its first commercial shipment of Australian avocados to the country. According to Fruitnet, Westfalia Fruit is collaborating with Delroy Orchards of Western Australia to bring Australian avocados to India, taking advantage of the November-to-March period, which coincides with Indian demand and complements existing African import programs.

Since 2022, Westfalia Fruit has been importing and commercially distributing avocados through its subsidiary in India, and has also begun its first harvest of domestically grown Hass avocados. The company works with retailers and e-commerce businesses to raise awareness of avocados in India, including establishing an avocado ripening center to supply ready-to-eat avocados.

Zac Bard, an executive at Westfalia Fruit, highlighted the company's leadership in importing avocados to India from several countries, now including Australia. Ajay TG, Managing Director of Westfalia Fruit India, emphasized the key role of Australian avocados in ensuring year-round availability in the Indian market. Bard stated, "Sea shipments from Western Australia will be crucial in meeting the growing demand for avocados over the next three months."
