Avocado volume rises in Europe while small sizes remain scarce
During week 29, the European avocado market saw the arrival of approximately 978 containers, representing a 3% increase compared to the previous week and a significant 17% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth reinforces a positive trend in supply, with Peru leading the way by accounting for 81% of the total volume received.
Colombia follows, albeit at a distance, with an 8% share, and then Kenya and Tanzania with a combined 6%. South Africa completes the picture with 5% of the total volume. It is worth noting that all these origins—except Peru—still remain below the threshold of 100 containers per week.
Regarding the evolution by origin, Peru showed a 9% increase in its shipment volume compared to the previous week. In contrast, shipments from South Africa, Colombia, Kenya, and Tanzania decreased between 10% and 20%, although without abrupt fluctuations.
Regarding prices, behavior was relatively stable. In Spain, no significant changes were reported compared to the previous week. In Rotterdam, Netherlands, size 18 showed a slight increase of 4%, while size 30 decreased by 1%, confirming that smaller sizes experienced marginal variations.
Market conditions remain similar to the previous week, with a sufficient supply of large and medium sizes, while a shortage of small sizes persists.
