San Jose Farms: Leading sustainable innovation with solar energy
At the heart of sustainable agriculture, San Jose Farms is revolutionizing its processes with clean and renewable energy, positioning itself as a benchmark in reducing its carbon footprint.
San José Farms has implemented 12 self-generation solar plants distributed across its fields and fruit processing plants in Chile. With a total installed capacity of 1,707 kWp and occupying approximately 3 hectares , this project is a clear commitment to a sustainable future.
Solar power plants are located in various regions of the country, including Gorbea, Vilcún, Angol, Longaví La Tercera, Longaví La Sexta, Alicura, San Ignacio, and Tilama. This strategic distribution allows for the optimization of energy processes and ensures more efficient and sustainable production.

Chile has also experienced steady growth in the integration of renewable energy into its energy mix, a shift that San José Farms has capitalized on in its operations. Thanks to efficient energy management and agreements with suppliers, the fresh fruit processing plant, located in the central region of the country, has reached a significant milestone by sourcing its energy exclusively from renewable sources for the past two years, achieving a supply exceeding 5,900 MWh between 2022 and 2023 .
A project with purpose: clean energy and low environmental impact
The main objective of this project is to ensure that the energy consumed in San José Farms' production processes comes from renewable sources , with a low environmental impact and a significant reduction in the carbon footprint . This initiative reinforces the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability. The implementation of these solar plants is structured under the ESCO ( Energy Service Company ) model, an innovative system that allows for the efficient financing of renewable energy projects. Through this model, San José Farms leases space within its fields to specialist companies, which are responsible for the investment, manufacturing, commissioning, and operation of the solar plants.
The system is simple and effective: the energy generated is consumed directly in the fields, while any surplus is fed back into the local power grid. The specialist company sells this energy to the distributor, generating a return on the initial investment and long-term economic benefits.
The adoption of solar energy at San José Farms is a significant step towards more responsible and environmentally friendly agriculture. With these initiatives, the company not only optimizes its energy efficiency but also sets a precedent in the Chilean agribusiness sector, demonstrating that it is possible to grow and produce in harmony with the planet.
San Jose Farms looks to the future with the firm conviction to continue expanding its solar generation potential, reaffirming its leadership in the implementation of clean and sustainable technologies.
