Port delays and reduced supply from Peru affect avocado supplies in China
The Chinese market closed the week with just seven avocado shipments, an unusually low figure due in part to port delays, but also to the natural decline in shipments from Peru, its main supplier. To put this in context, in week 34, arrivals exceeded 50 containers per week, a level that had been sustained in previous weeks. Although a return to normalcy is expected in the coming days, projections do not exceed that threshold, as the Peruvian season is already entering its downward phase.
In terms of prices, the market is also showing signs of weakness. This week saw a 4% drop compared to the previous week, prolonging the downward trend. Even more worrying is the year-on-year comparison: compared to the same week in 2024, current prices are 55% lower.
Historical records confirm the magnitude of the situation. Reviewing prices for week 35 over the last four years, the 2025 value stands out as the lowest of the period, solidifying a challenging scenario for exporters targeting China as a strategic market.
