Peru: Huánuco prepares for the highly anticipated Avocado Festival in Santa María del Valle
Between May 3rd and 5th, the District Municipality of Santa María del Valle, located in the Huánuco region, will host the second annual Avocado Festival. This celebration promises to be a showcase for avocados and their derivatives, including a highlight event featuring the world's largest avocado salad, as well as a gastronomic festival that promises to delight attendees with the many culinary facets of this fruit.
The festival will also feature the election of Jipash 2024, a title that crowns the queen of the event, and will offer technical talks aimed at farmers at the Field School, specifically on a demonstration plot located on the "San Miguel" farm, in the same district.
The organization of this event is in charge of a committed team, led by Mr. Wilson Palomino Claudio and composed of outstanding members of the community and experts in the avocado industry, including the members of the Avocado Technical Committee.
Additionally, thanks to a collaboration between the Ambo Agricultural Agency and the Conchamarca District Municipality in the province of Ambo, a significant step forward has been achieved for local small-scale producers with the distribution of 480 avocado seedlings of the “Hass” and “Fuerte” varieties. This effort, led by engineer Alfredo León Rodríguez, aims to increase productivity and improve farmers' incomes, thereby strengthening the avocado industry in the region.
