Mexico reduces shipments, while Peru and Colombia gain ground in the US market

The US avocado market closed week 20 with an estimated total of 1,491 containers received. This figure represents a slight contraction of 3% compared to the previous week, although it remains 11% higher than the same period in 2024, reflecting a sustained and higher flow than last year, despite recent adjustments.

Mexico remains the leading supplier, accounting for 57% of the total, although its shipments decreased by 12%. In contrast, Colombia increased its share by 21%, while California and Peru each increased their volume by around 14%, creating a more diversified supply.

Regarding prices, the trend varied depending on the size. Larger sizes remained stable and close to the price of size 48, which has served as a benchmark. However, smaller sizes, such as 60 and 70, saw an 8% decrease, widening the gap with larger fruits and reflecting downward pressure in specific market segments.

From the industry, Gary Clevenger commented that the increase in imports from Peru and Colombia is offering buyers a wider variety of options at this time of year, compared to 2024, when trade was more fluid but returns for producers, especially in California, were less favorable. For his part, Antonio Villaseñor noted that farmgate prices have been gradually adjusting downward, although they are expected to stabilize in the coming weeks.
