Mexico gains ground while Colombia reduces shipments to the US by 43%.

The US avocado market closed week 33 with an increase in volume. A total of 1,591 shipments arrived, representing a 2% increase compared to the previous week and a 9% increase compared to the same period last year.

The market share by origin remains dominated by Mexico, with a 69% share, followed by Peru with 19%, California with 9%, and, further behind, Colombia with just 3%. The most significant change this week was Colombia's, which reduced its shipments by 43% compared to the previous period. In contrast, Mexico increased its exports by 6%, while Peru and California maintained the same volumes as last week.

In terms of prices, the trend was downward for most sizes, with the exception of size 60, which remained unchanged. The most significant decreases were recorded for sizes 48 and 70, both with a 7% drop.

The situation has prompted different interpretations among specialists. Antonio Villaseñor predicts that in the coming weeks, as California and Peru exit the market, Mexico will fill the gaps left by those countries, allowing for a more balanced flow of demand.

For his part, Sergio Paz observes an excess of fruit on the market, which would be putting even more pressure on prices, both at the destination and at the origin.
