Record high in Moroccan avocado exports

During the 2023-2024 season, Moroccan avocado exports reached a historic record, according to Abdellah Elyamlahi, leader of the Moroccan Avocado Association (MAVA).

Elyamlahi reports that, based on recent data collected in the Larache/Kenitra region, where most of the country's avocado production is concentrated, the sector achieved a production of over 70,000 tons this season, with 60,000 tons destined for export—a 50% increase compared to the previous year. This achievement is in line with the goals announced at the end of the last season, and the sector is on track to export 100,000 tons by 2027.

Despite challenges such as storms that caused the loss of more than 6,000 tons of fruit and a lack of rain that resulted in an abundance of small fruit, the sector is satisfied with the results achieved this year.

The sector's boom is attributed to decreased production in Spain, which has generated high market demand. This trend is expected to continue, as many orchards are young and increased yields are anticipated for the next season. Furthermore, more favorable weather is expected, which will help overcome the drought that has affected the country.
