Maluma stands out with a +36.5% growth in volume in Peruvian avocado exports in 2023

Last year marked a significant milestone for Peruvian fresh avocado exports, reaching a total of US$994,970,000 for 617,540 tons, representing a 9.9% increase in value and a 3.5% increase in volume compared to the previous year. According to Lizbeth Pumasunco, head of ADEX Consulting, the Hass variety led exports with a total value of US$882,520,000, accounting for 88.7% of the total value reached in 2023.

The Maluma variety emerged as a standout, registering a remarkable 120.7% growth in value, reaching US$7,230,000. Meanwhile, in terms of volume, the Hass variety continued to lead shipments with 545,770 tons, closely followed by the Fuerte variety with 6,760 tons.

Regarding the average price, the Fuerte variety avocado fetched the highest price on the international market at US$1.94 per kilogram on average, followed by the Naval variety at US$1.83 and the Maluma variety at US$1.71. However, the Hass variety, although not the most expensive, accounted for the majority of the total value exported in 2023.

The main destinations for Peruvian fresh avocado exports included the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States, while the leading exporting companies were Avocado Packing Company, Westfalia Fruit Perú, and Camposol. The significant growth in fresh avocado exports underscores Peru's important role in the global avocado market, with a continued emphasis on quality and diversification of exported varieties.
