Avocado imports in Europe have grown 50% compared to last year, with Peru dominating 83% of the market.

The European avocado market continued to show strength at the close of week 23, receiving a total of 967 shipments. This figure remained stable compared to the previous week and represents a slight increase of 3% in the weekly variation. However, when compared to the same period in 2024, the volume received exceeded last year's figure by 50%, reflecting a considerable increase in the available supply on the continent.

Peru remains the main supplier to the European market, accounting for 83% of shipments. South Africa follows with 9%, Colombia with 7%, and Brazil with less than 2%. This distribution confirms Peru's dominance in the current supply campaign for the European continent.

Regarding prices, variations have been moderate but significant depending on the size and destination market. In Rotterdam, the price of larger sizes, such as size 18, decreased by 5%, while smaller sizes, such as size 30, increased by 6%, thus narrowing the price gap between sizes. Meanwhile, in Spain, the price of size 18 fell by 9% compared to the previous week, while comparative data for smaller sizes in that market is unavailable.

Based on the analysis of market operators, Carlos Socaña noted that the price decrease has been more gradual than initially projected. According to him, this is partly explained by the particular distribution of sizes seen to date, with a more balanced distribution that prevents rapid market saturation.
